Hip-Hop Superstar Drake Announces Dance Event 'The Ballet' in Houston

By Philip Trapp on Sep 05, 2016 02:18 PM EDT

Scheduled for Labor Day evening, hip-hop superstar Drake has announced a mysterious dance event called The Ballet. The event is scheduled to take place on Monday night, Sept. 5, at 10 p.m. in Houston, though exact details are currently scarce.

HotNewHipHop reports on The Ballet event:

"On Monday (Sept. 5) at 10 p.m., Drake will host The Ballet, which promises to present 'a new dance experience.' He announced the event on Instagram, and wrote to his Houston-based fans, 'we are giving you the chance to experience something that's here to stay.' It's strange to think of Drake paving the way for 'a new dance experience,' though as was evidenced by the 'Hotline Bling' video, his moves do tend to shake up the game."

The Canadian-born Drake (real name Aubrey Drake Graham) is reportedly already in Houston this week for the third annual Houston Appreciation Weekend, sponsored by Drake's record label and clothing line business, OVO (October's Very Own).

Pitchfork reports: "The Ballet will start at 10 p.m. and will run through 2 a.m. Details are still forthcoming. Fellow OVO Sound artist dvsn has also announced an event in Houston that same night via his Instagram."

Drake is currently on top of the music world after his most recent album, Views, stayed at the No. 1 position on the US Billboard 200 chart for 12 weeks. Released in April, the album has reportedly already sold over 1.4 million copies in the United States alone.

The hit Views album spawned the aforementioned "Hotline Bling" smash, as well as four other singles: "Too Good" featuring Barbadian singer Rihanna, "One Dance" with collaborators Wizkid and Kyla, "Pop Style" featuring The Throne and the No. 16 Hot 100 chart entry, "Controlla."

Perhaps Drake will revolutionize the art of ballet, as he did with hip-hop music, during the mysterious The Ballet event. If you're in Houston and plan on attending the even this Labor Day evening, let us know your take on the dance event in the comments section below.
