London's Saatchi Gallery Think Selfies Was A Form Of Art and Encourage Public To Submit One

Can selfies really be art? London's Saatchi Gallery thinks soOxford Dictionaries named "selfie" as the word of the year in 2013 which raised the popularity of the trend.  Many of the well-known personalities especially in Hollywood even in politics and the Pope have been on the ride on this trend.

Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian are prominent selfie posters even the former President Barack Obama snapped a selfie together with Denmark's former Prime Minister David Cameron. Even the former Prime Minister of Denmark, Helle Thorning-Schmidt took a photo of herself at Nelson Mandela's memorial service and also Pope Francis posed with young fans at the Vatican had gone viral, according to BBC.

One of the most famous selfies was the Ellen DeGeneres's Oscars selfie jam-packed with celebrities like Brad Pitt, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep and more. The Saatchi Gallery will establish an exhibition from "Selfie to Self-Expression" this exhibit focuses on the self-portraits of the world-renowned artist such as Vincent van Gogh, Tracey Emin, Rembrandt, Velazquez, June Calypso and Kutluğ Ataman. 

The exhibit intended to showcase "artist's talents" beside of showing with their "more intimate and personal works," and will be started on 31 March. Nigel Hurst, the chief executive officer at the Saatchi Gallery explained that in this modern age's technology, the Smartphone is the new outlet for self-expression, according to The Guardian. 

The officers are also planning on inviting young photographers to contribute their own works at the gallery. It will also serve as encouragement on the public to submit their selfies in the social media with the hashtag of "SaatchiSelfie" for the chance of inclusion of the photos in the exhibition.

Glory Zhang of Huawei said that the updated technologies such as Smartphones have made on stylish gadgets of "artistic expression". She also added that millennials were a "selfie generation" since young individuals seek to explore and share their inner creativity through its modern devices.
