Mary Tyler Moore Dead At 80: Legendary Actress, Fearless Visionary Dies In Connecticut

Multi-awardee actress Mary Tyler Moore dies at the age of 80 at the Connecticut Hospital after having a heart attack and pneumonia. Moore had been known with her battle of Diabetes.

Publicist Mara Buxbaum stated that Moore died in the company of her dearest friends, her loving family, and her husband for over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine. Before her death, she was diagnosed with a different illness that made her health condition even worse. At the age of 33, she was struggling with her type I Diabetes. That is the reason why she devoted herself to being an advocate of Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Moore was first seen as Laura Petrie in" The Dick Van Dyke Show" in 1961-1966. Her role was the clever, optimistic, funny and kind of a crazy wife Rob Petrie. The show garnered different awards including her pair of Emmy's for an outstanding performance.

This opened more opportunities for the actress as she had her own TV show called "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" which was created by James L. Brooks and Allan Burns. It ran from 1970-1977 and also won a total of 29 Emmy Awards which included three consecutive Outstanding Comedy Series 1975-1977. That made the show set high standards for American sitcoms because of re-inventing the role of women from being stay-at-home and just mere housewives, as reported by Deadline. MTM Show ranked number 6 while Van Dyke Show was at number 14 in 2012's list of 101 Best Written TV Series.

In MTM Show, she played the role of a young journalist, named Mary Richards, who works at a newsroom in Minneapolis TV Station. The character of Mary Richards deeply attached to the lives of people in the late 70s and early 80s, according to Daily Mail. The actress was born on December 29, 1936, in the Brooklyn, New York and she is the eldest among her three other siblings. She married 3 times and underwent brain surgery in 2011.

Most of her co-stars and the people close to her like Oprah Winfrey, director Carl Reiner and Broadway producer Emanuel Azenberg offered their deep respect to the legendary actress. Mary Tyler Moore will indeed be missed by the world.
