Suits Season 6 News: Patrick J. Adams Opens Up on Series’ New Direction, Fresh Midseason Start

Suits’ performance this past summer was the series’ lowest performance in the show’s history, which left fans wondering if the legal drama was finally coming to a close. But recently, Patrick J. Adams spoke about the series’ hard reset that began with the recent midseason premiere.

Speaking with E! News, Adams gave fans some much-needed hope that Suits still has much more up its sleeve. “I think the show did something kind of amazing that starts in the first episode and continues in the next five episodes, which is it kind of goes back to its roots in a way,” Adams, who directed the midseason premiere titled “She’s Gone,” said. Adding, “There’s all these really new dynamic, important problems and people with very different ideas about how to fix them.”

Indeed, Suits has set its main characters up for new arcs after having Jessica Pearson (Gina Torres) leave the firm. The new challenges that Adams spoke about stems from this development, and allows the characters to focus on more personal challenges and different priorities, rather than have Mike Ross’ secret be at the epicenter most of the time.

Now that Ross is out of prison, Adams likens the development to Suits getting the hard reset it needed after six seasons on the air. And the numbers back this up. As noted by Forbes, while Suits’ winter viewership has been historically lower than the summer’s, the midseason premier appears to have set a precedent that would have it match the summer numbers for Season 6.

Suits’ next episode titled “The Painting is scheduled to air on Feb. 1. Reports share that Harvey Specter’s (Gabriel Macht) mother, Lily, will be playing a vital part in the episode, and subsequently, the rest of the season. The next episode, which airs on Feb. 8 is titled “Teeth, Nose, Teeth.”
