The viewers who wanted to watch a movie "A Dog's Purpose" were greeted in a protest by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). PETA was calling for a boycott after a video surfaced showing a German shepherd dog being forced into pool turbulent water for one of the movie's scene.

Movie theaters in Los Angeles, New York City, Washington, D.C., and Winnipeg are where the demonstrations took place. People are also mobilizing in more than 25 other cities, including Atlanta, Chicago, Las Vegas, San Diego and Seattle.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Lange, senior vice president of PETA, was among dozens of demonstrators who gathered outside the Arclight Theater in Hollywood on Friday. They asking to boycott the film "A Dog's Purpose," which on its opening night is already at the center of an animal abuse controversy.

After seeing the footage Lange said she found the footage horrific and if this can happen on a set where people actually care about animals, "A Dog's Purpose" deeply rooted the problems in the industry, claimed by the Deadline. Demonstrators were holding signs that say its purpose was to be loved and isn't to be in a damn movie.

There are other signs saying that dogs were not props to quietly marched into the theater entrance and back to the sidewalk, where drivers stuck in rush-hour traffic honked their horns, prompting cheers. The filmmakers dismissed the clip "A Dog's Purpose" saying that it was edited to looked like the dog was in a dangerous situation but the production company released a statement that it will review the said footage.

Tracking originally, "A Dog's Purpose" showed a $27M opening, but because of the controversy, it was fallen to $18M putting it into number 2. Lange urged the Hollywood filmmakers to use computer-generated imagery to replicate animals in movies saying that if they can't make humane movies then don't make one.
