The pending sale of St. Angstar's old elementary school building made a way for the Summer stock Theater to come to the community. The Cedar Summerstock Theater will be a chance for college students to experience what working for a professional theater company is all about.

According to Globe Gazette, the theater was created in 2016 to provide the college performing arts students an intensive experience to further their skills, connect with industry professionals, and engage their community in the arts. It was designed to be an intensive program with a rigorous rehearsal and performance schedule.

"Once the first show opens we will start rehearsing the second show during the day while continuing to perform the first show at night," said Lee.

The shows will have to feature a run with the cast, artistic planners, and its cast. Also, thos workers in the old elementary school will be featured. All of the preparation for the shows will be done in the old elementary school building, including the set designs and scene creation.

According to Waterloo Cedar Fall Courier, Lee has already been working on the organization of auditions so people can start to apply. Each show was planned to have a 10-day rehearsal. The idea of this is to give college performing arts students an opportunity the theater in a professional perspective. Lee has also expressed an interest in bringing new scripts to the program, giving writers a space with which to create them and then having Summerstock Troupe perform them.

Lee said she saw St. Angstar as the perfect place to set up a creative space that would allow young performing artists to work on their crafts, given that she already have strong connections in the Mitchell County. Also, Lee mentioned that they think that they could bring the people from the different parts of the country. College students might be so interested in their show.

All applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university performing arts program and have completed their freshman year by June 2017. Check our websites for more updates!
