Disney's "Freaky Friday" has been extended its run by a week at the La Jolla Playhouse till March 19, 2017. This is the second extension announced by The Playhouse and has clarified that this will be the final expansion as the play has other engagements in Cleveland and Houston.

"Freaky Friday" is based Bridget Carpenter' book that was originally written by Mary Rodgers, reports SanDiego UnionTribune. The musical comedy narrates the story of a mom and daughter who switch bodies. What follows a series of chaos and comedy of errors!

The production is developed by Disney Theatrical Productions with music and lyrics by Tony-winning collaborators Kitt and Yorkey. Directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley, the choreography is handled by Tony nominee Sergio Trujillo.

The cast of "Freaky Friday" is headed by Heidi Blickenstaff and Emma Hunton with Jeannette Bayardelle (The Color Purple), Joseph Dellger (Ragtime), Jessie Hooker (Legally Blonde), David Jennings (Once Upon a Mattress), Storm Lever (The Wringer), Eean Cochran (Mamma Mia!), Mary Jo McConnell (Beauty and the Beast), Chris Ramirez (Icon), Julian Ramos (West Side Story), Jake Heston Miller (Oliver!), Tony Neidenbach (Anything Goes), Jennifer Newberry (Brother, Can You Spare a Dime), Alet Taylor (The Producers), Jason SweetTooth Williams (Once Upon a Mattress), and Sumi Yu (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) playing the supporting cast.

A digital cast recording of the musical is already available on Disney Music site. The music of the play has been widely appreciated with "Busted" standing out. The big screen version of the play was nominated for three Golden Globes including the Best Actresses for Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris and Best Original Song in 1976.

According to La JollaLight, this stage version of "Freaky Friday" perfectly captures the magic of the original novel laced with great music, ample humor and overall entertainment for the family audience.
