Watch Richard Wagner's Magnum Opus "Ring Cycle" For Free On BBC Now!
Well, it's time to keep your Netflix plans ahead and stream on to the ultimate binge watch "Der Ring des Nibelungen." Thanks to BBC, it has posted the shows for free streaming. Also known as the "Ring Cycle," this production is one of Richard Wagner's best-known works.
A report on BBC stated "Ringer Cycle" as a monumental music drama produced by critically acclaimed Leeds-based Opera North. The videos in the website were filmed during their live performance in 2016. It consists of four separate operas running for a whopping 15-plus hour. What makes it interesting is its fascinating storyline laced with captivating music.
WQXR opined that "Ringer Cycle" has a massive spatial production with heavy financial undertakings, grandeur sets, massive orchestra, and strong casting. It is reported that the production had to accommodate more than 100 musicians for which the team moved the production to a concert hall to share the stage. Further, the team chucked the idea of traditional stage creations to accommodate video screens to display scenic backdrops.
"Ringer Cycle" was staged all over the UK at various operas in different cities. At Leeds, they successfully performed all four parts of the story. With BBC making it free-to-stream, fans can get a slice of the visual grandeur at a single click for the next six months. The Guardian called the semi-staged concert performances as an enthralling experience that had a blend of intimacy and matchless music.
The four parts of the production are "Das Rheingold," (set among the dwarfs and giants, gods and river-maidens) "Die Walküre," (revolves around the human emotions with a musical twist) "Siegfried," (a daring hero decides to take revenge against his father's murderers) and "Götterdämmerung" (the old world of gods ends and a new dawn begins).
