The long drop by Denis Mina was having a review of meeting the Scotland's worst serial killer. Denis Mina's "The Long Drop" novel is a standalone novel which uses as the inspiration to the case of Scotland's one of the worst serial killer.

According to The Guardian, Peter Manuel was the serial killer he was named "The Beast of Birkenshaw" who murdered around eight people in Lanarkshire between 1956 and 1958. Yet Denis Mina was interested particularly in Manuel's relationship with William Watt who rightly accused that Manuel murdered his family.

It was around 2 am on January 1, 1958, during the Hogmanay celebrations serial killer Peter Manuel took the telephone from his sister Theresa. Suddenly, Al Martino sings "Here in my heart" to his sister's friend Mary who is the nursed from the Glasgow Southern General Hospital.

According to Nut Press, "The Long Drop" was contained with an expressive and chilling game underworld bagatelle, fueled by beer and whiskey that it could take you to dark and dangerous places. This was Mina's first novel-length foray into real crime a genre that especially in her hometown.

It was very memorable that the writer Denis Mina in her semi-fictitious account of Peter Manuel's case avoids such captivating novelistic details. Peter Manuel killed William Watt's wife, daughter, and including William's sister in law and Manuel defiantly committed triple homicide in a row.

On the other side, Peter Manuel's full name was Peter Thomas Antony Manuel he was born in New York in March 1962 and his parents was a Scottish. At the age of 10, Manuel was considered as a juvenile delinquent child and served his first term in custody at the age of 15 for sexual assault.

However, Mina doesn't usually tell the story simply in her POV or point of view she seems more ease at summoning at the Glasgow of the period.
