Cheryl Burke From 'Dancing with the Stars' Kicks Off New Show 'Love on the Floor'

By Philip Trapp on Jun 30, 2016 07:57 PM EDT

Dancer Cheryl Burke, best known to American television audiences as one of Dancing with the Stars' professional dancers for 18 seasons, is launching a new Japanese dance show, Love on the Floor, later this this month in Tokyo.

Taking her dance experience to the next level in programmed entertainment, this time the performer will be hooking up with famed Olympic skaters and former DWTS contestants Meryl Davis, Charlie White, Kristi Yamaguchi and partnering with 2010 Olympic bronze medalist, Daisuke Takahashi.

In an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Burke tells the mag of the admiration she holds for her figure skating friends and the respect garnered such resilient Olympic athletes in Japan:

"I've been close to Meryl, Charlie and Kristi for a long time. And the Japanese culture really loves ice-skating and they really appreciate people with great talent, and they really respect the arts. They really love seeing the skaters dance on a hardwood floor and not be skating. And I've always loved dancing with athletes because of their discipline, work ethic and their talent."

Burke got into hot water earlier this year for bad-mouthing her former DWTS celebrity dance partners. In an interview with People, she recounted her investigative efforts when being matched with a new star partner for the show -- telling the publication she often had to search online for information on each successive teammate, save for '90s teen television star, Ian Ziering:

"I would have to Google almost every single partner of mine -- other than Ian Ziering because I used to watch 90210. My mom ... would let me watch an hour a week, and I would watch 90210 ... on Wednesdays. I'm like 'Why couldn't you give me Luke Perry or Jason Priestley? Why'd you give me that guy?'"

Love on the Floor begins airing in Japan on Thursday, June 30.
