Universal Pushes 'Secret Life Of Pets' Sequel By A Year And Locks 'Minions 2' And 'Sing 2' For 2020 Release

The date for the release of one of the most awaited sequels of the animation blockbuster "Sing" has been announced by the Universal Pictures. Though it is a long wait, Animation movie fans can rejoice the fact that 2020 Christmas is going to be special!

According to the Variety, Universal Pictures looks to release one more sequel of their popular franchise "Minions" in the same year as "Sing" while the "Secret Life of Pets 2" is supposed to release in 2018 is pushed back by a year. The first installment of "Sing" was released in 2016 and it has been a huge hit for both Universal and Illumination Entertainment. The animation film grossed $429 million all over the world including $250 million nationwide.

Having voice-overs from Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon, "Sing" was about a singing competition among animals on the line of "American Idol". It also received a nomination at the Golden Globes Awards 2017 for the best animation film, eventually losing out to "Zootopia". Illumination Entertainment has "Secret Life of Pets" as their top grosser at $875 million worldwide in 2016, whereas the first installment of "Minions" released in 2015 grossed $1.16 billion.

According to the Deadline Magazine, the sequel of "Secret Life of Pets" has been pushed back by a year and will now be releasing on the eve of Independence Day i.e., 4th July 2019 instead of 3rd July 2019. "Minions 2" will be getting a head start in the theaters on the same date, 4th of July only a year later in 2020 along with "Sing 2" locked for the 25th December, Christmas day.

Off late animated films are competing for a neck to neck with their human counterparts at the box-office. And with such popular franchise lined up, animation movie lovers are in for a real treat. All the announced movies will be additionally released in 3D, doubling the fun factor.
