'59th Annual Grammy Awards' Update: Adele Want To Share Award To Beyoncé

By Genevieve Gatia on Feb 16, 2017 08:48 AM EST

Adele won the top awards of the 59th Grammy Awards. But she turned her acceptance speech into a Beyoncé tribute.

After accepting another award for the Record of the Year for Hello, Adele is stunned when she was announced as the winner for the Album of the Year for 25. According to The Guardian, Adele reluctantly accepted the top Grammy awards.

Adele defeated the "Formation" singer for album of the year, the song of the year, and record of the year. She won two other awards earlier in the day, taking home a total of five awards.

On Variety report, the "Hello" singer broke her award in half, it is unclear whether it was by accident or a symbolic gesture. But the internet compared the gesture to Mean Girls film when Lindsay Lohan's character Cady Heron, broke her Spring Fling crown and threw the pieces to her fellow classmates.

On her acceptance speech, she believes that Beyoncé should have won instead of her she said nothing but praises. She describes the Beyoncé, her songs, and album "Lemonade" in superlatives. The moment was made more special with a teary-eyed Beyoncé thanking her for the unexpected dedication. Adele added that Beyoncé is the light of the artist and they all love her.

Beyoncé became the inspiration for women of color and giving them the courage to stand up for themselves. But this is not the first time that a Grammy win has been controversial and it is not the first time Beyoncé lost an award to a more popular white artist even though she deserves it.

But the Grammy Awards will be remembered for its political messages. Many artists tried to make their point, like rapper Busta, Rhymes with his politically charged song President Agent Orange after Adele walked off the stage.
