One of the best portrait paintings of Thomas Gainsborough, 18th century's finest English painter, has been restored and re-installed at the National gallery after the attack. After the incident, "The Morning Walk" by Thomas Gainsborough gets back on display at the National Gallery after it was struck by a pointed object.

According to New York Times, the attacker was a 63-year-old man known for his name Keith Gregory who got arrested and charged in the attack and appeared before Westminster Magistrates court earlier in this month. Gregory used a sharp object to strike Thomas Gainsborough's "The Morning Walk" and fortunately had not penetrated the canvas.

Thomas Gainsborough's "The Morning Walk" shows a graceful young couple walking around through a woodland landscape with a dog around the young ladies heel. William Hallet is the guy in the black silk velvet frock suit while Elizabeth Stephen is the woman standing in a dress of ivory silk that probably was her wedding dress, both are under the age of 21 and set to be married at in the summer of 1785.

According to The Guardian, "The Morning Walk" of Thomas Gainsborough gained two scratches that were about one meter and 65cm long in the incident, which happened on Saturday afternoon. Due to a fast restoration of the painting, it was hung back in the display Tuesday morning.

Luckily the scratch only goes in the paint not directly in the canvas so it was quickly restored by the lead operator Paul Ackroyd. Meanwhile, though the repair won't be visible to the naked eye, the scratches can be seen using an instrument such as ultraviolet light.

Moreover, the National Gallery's director and keeper Larry Kieth and the museum believed that the painting was used as a hand tool or a power tool. However, Mr. And Mrs. William Hallet or the so called "The Morning Walk" of Thomas Gainsborough was back in just 10 days at the National Gallery in London after the attack.
