Ballet Blue Bloods Take Issue With Kendall Jenner's Dance Appropriation

Professional ballerinas and dance students the world are over are taking umbrage this week with a recent Vogue España video showing Kardashian family model and socialite Kendall Jenner mimicking ballet moves. The contested clip includes the daughter of Caitlyn Jenner and Kris Jenner erroneously spinning en pointe while outfitted in various ballet garments.

The video, seemingly a simple fluff piece to accompany a forthcoming Vogue photo spread of Jenner, is apparently making waves with dancers who are offended by Kendall's uneducated appropriation of the art form and fledgling interpretation of ballet's nuanced dance positions.

In the internet pile-on of ballet critique, Dance Moms' principal pedagogue and creative convict Abby Lee Miller even joined in on the postulant putdowns. According to Fashionista, the television teacher posted a now-deleted diatribe on Instagram condemning Ms. Jenner's amateur ballet execution:

"I don't make a habit of commenting on all the dancers that post pics with incorrect technique... but I can not be a fan of this shoot. There are so many amazing dancers in the world... Kendall Jenner is not one of them! Shame on Momager, Kris Jenner!!! She never made these kids take dance class. She better get North West to the [Abby Lee Dance Company Studio LA] before it's too late!"

Not all ballerinas are taking Jenner to task for her dilettante dance moves. Allison DeBona, a first soloist at Salt Lake City's Ballet West, took to Facebook to defend the green performer:

"To the ballet world, it seems to me as if there is never a perfect condition for you. As far as Kendall Jenner and the Vogue España shoot, she's a beautiful young girl who's job is to do what she's asked to do. Not really sure of the reason behind it except maybe all girls dream of being a ballerina on stage and she's in her room playing as one?"
