Naotaka Hiro's Human Cocoon, A Primal Art Masterpiece Made From Within

By Arman Dela Cruz on Jan 18, 2017 08:00 AM EST

We rarely see artworks or collections these days wherein the artist is involve on the art itself. Well, not anymore. A recent masterpiece of Naotaka Hiro proves that an art can be more striking when an artist' presence is involved and mixed in it.

The main gallery of the Box in Los Angeles currently hangs Naotaka Hiro's "Peak", is one of the most stunning art work you'll ever see. According to LA Times, the art portrays a deeper meaning on the limits of knowing anything about the human body. The whole piece itself truly captivates mind and eye alike.

The Peak offers to give a new perspective on how we comprehend our bodies beyond our naked eyes. As The Box LA stated, the primal cocoon is an art that replicated what's on, between and beneath the canvas surface or a layer of a skin. The overall design itself is a representation of what really is inside of us in an artful way. He specifically aims to make us more aware of our cellular parts inside our body and how it works behind the surface of our skin.

Hiro expresses himself by being totally wrapped inside a canvas with a camera on his mouth while painting from the inside. While filming what's happening around the 'cocoon', his body movement and even his breathing can be seen and heard on the outside. Several colors of fabric dye and oil pastel were used to create the art inside. The size of the canvas is nearly 14 feet tall. A nine minute video is also being shown while visitors gaze at the masterpiece.

Naotaka Hiro currently lives and works in Los Angeles. You can see his biography and collection at Brennan Griffin as well. He also received a Master of Fine arts degree in 2000 at California Institute of Arts.
