‘John Wick 2’ News and Updates: Keanu Reeves Fight All Day For Action Packed Sequel

Action film firework “John Wick” didn’t exactly light up the box office when it first came out, having a luke warm opening weekend in 2014. But eventually, action movie junkies got word of Keanu Reeves’ headshot god character, propelling the Lionsgate release to a worldwide revenue of $86 million (from a $14 million opening weekend). So what do you expect for an encore from “John Wick 2?” Even more kills, of course.

And as reported by USA Today, critics have already given “John Wick 2,” set for release on Friday, an overwhelming thumbs up, with a 95 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel picks up right where the first movie left off, kicking things off with a massive action sequence that sees Keanu Reeves’ character retrieving his stolen 1969 Mustang from the bad guys.

And the body count just builds from there, as 141 bad guys take a bullet from the legendary hitman. As noted by USA Today, “John Wick 2’s” kills totals 141, up from 81 in the first movie. According to co-star and new bad guy Common, Keanu Reeves worked hard to be in shape for the added action in the sequel. “This dude has just come from fighting all day on camera and now he’s fighting with me for hours,” the “Now You See Me” star said. “He physically gives himself.”

“John Wick 2’s” plot begins when Santino D’Antonio comes to Wick to cash in on a favor, to which of course, the hitman/protagonist obliges. As noted by the Washington Post, “John Wick 2” turns into an action movie rollercoaster ride from there—giving fans of the franchise even more of what they enjoyed in the first movie. “John Wick 2” has been rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America. The association cites strong violence throughout, some language and brief nudity, the Washington Post reported.
