Major Attaway To Weave Magic Carpet As Aladdin's New Genie

We have earlier reported that actor Adam Jacobs bid his farewell as the iconic "Aladdin" in Broadway. Jacobs is launching the touring company of the show and his North American Tour will kickstart on April 11 at Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre with a prior official opening on April 19. Jacobs will be joined by Anthony Murphy, Isabelle McCalla, Jonathan Weir as Genie, Jasmine, and Jaffar respectively.

Meanwhile, another major change in the cast of "Aladdin" is the role of Genie. Major Attaway, who debuted as Standby Genie, can now call it his role at the Broadway. He has replaced Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart, who is moving to Hamilton.

In a statement published by PlayBill, Attaway called the Broadway chance as an "affirmation beyond imagining." He also added that he has finally got his due to present the be love story of "Aladdin" with a phenomenal cast of Broadway. He also called the role a "catalyst for joy and hope" and is really looking ahead to move the lamp for a long term.

A report on Broadway revealed that the production house Disney has extended the contracts of five of its original cast for another year. Courtney Reed (Jasmine), Jonathan Freeman (Jafar), Brian Gonzales (Babkak), Clifton Davis (Sultan) and Don Darryl Rivera (Iago) will work for the production till Feb 18, 2018. New member Deonté L. Warren will be the standby Genie.

Also, the main role of "Aladdin" will be played by Telly Leung, of hit Broadway musical In Transit. Some of his Broadway shows include Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Flower Drum Song," the revival of "Godspell" and George Takei's "Allegiance." He also played a key role in TV series "Glee."

The mesmerising production has a strong technical team that includes music by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice, scenic design by Bob Crowley, costume design by Gregg Barnes, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Ken Travis, illusions by Jim Steinmeyer, hair design by Josh Marquette, orchestrate by Danny Troob, and dance music arrangement by Glen Kelly.
