Emma Rice To Resign From Shakespeare’s Globe In 2018
The phenomenal artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe Emma Rice has resigned from the theater after only two seasons. Shakespeare's Globe is the reincarnation of Shakespearean theater, opened in 1997. Emma Rice and her precursor Dominic Dromgoole have dismantled some bared details about the theater, for depicting the reason behind her living. In her letter, Emma Rice warned her successor in Shakespeare's globe to preserve their artistic freedom.
According to Standard, Reports revealed that Emma's departure was mutual with Shakespeare's Globe board. It was the result of a conflict of notions between Emma Rice and the Shakespeare's Globe board, about Emma's use of artificial lighting and sounds in productions.
Defying this report Emma Rice remarked that her decision to step down from Shakespeare's Globe in 2018 wasn't depended on that sound or lighting fact but on her personal trust and artistic freedom. In her letter, she also assured that the lack of respect from Shakespeare's Globe board and exclusion from Shakespeare's Globe authority made her mind to resign.
In her impassioned letter, Emma Rice said that the Shakespeare's Globe Theater was her lover, partner, children, and future. She never received the adequate love and respect from the Shakespeare's Globe she ought to receive. Emma also stated that she chose her dignity and her work over the disrespect.
According to BBC, The revealing letter of Emma Rice also depicts her love for the director post of Shakespeare's Globe. In line with Emma Rice, it's the most prestigious post anyone can get. Addressing her future successor Emma said that she handed down the baton with pride, celebration, and sadness as she said goodbye to this glorious chapter of her life.
Reports also revealed that Emma Rice's predecessor Dominic Dromgoole accompanied her by saying that it was heartbreaking that Emma Rice had been stopped in full filling her ambition. According to him, a theater like Shakespeare's Globe should follow its artistic director. Dominic also disrespected Emma's blocking of choice.
The application process for Emma Rice's replacement in Shakespeare's Globe will be closed on April 24. A successor who is "An experienced and dynamic theater professional with a love and knowledge of Shakespeare", will be announced within the due course.© 2019 The Classical Arts, All rights reserved.
