George Lucas Museum In L.A. May Not Be A Wise Decision For The City

Museums are gateways to the past. They contain historical artifacts and evidences of how history has changed its course over the years. For some, Museums can be boring at times, which is off course not the case with the one that legendary filmmaker George Lucas is setting-up in Los Angeles. However, the decision of L.A. authorities to allow this museum is not without its fair share of doubts.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the proposed museum will be built on a site west to the L.A. Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles. It will be a museum of "narrative art" and is expected to open in the year 2021. The architect-in-chief of the billion dollar project will be Ma Yansong hailing from China.

Prior to L.A., Lucas had tried to get approval from the city authorities of San Francisco and Chicago but things did not work out. It is being assumed that Mayor Eric Garcetti stood by George Lucas' innovative project to take it as an opportunity to put Los Angeles up on the map of recreational places in America. Also it can be the perfect answer to Los Angeles' idea of a place for better civic engagement.

Though it can be the perfect answer to Los Angeles' idea of a place for better civic engagement, there is a lot of doubt about the amount of open space that is going to be left behind once the museum is built. In fact, many people are not at all supporting the sacrifice of the greenery to set up another recreational hub already put under the weight of two giant architectures, The Natural History Museum and the LA Memorial Coliseum.

According to CNBC, looking at the" extensive due diligence and deliberation" of the LA city authorities has led Lucas and his team to ultimately choose LA's Exposition Park as their spot for the construction of the museum. It will be the perfect neighbor to marvels like the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the California Science Center, the home to the space shuttle Endeavor.

Lucas has been trying to get a perfect spot to start his venture for almost a decade. "We have been humbled by the overwhelmingly positive support we received from both San Francisco and Los Angeles during our selection process," the museum organizers said in a statement.

The museum will be home to a personal collection with 40000 paintings and illustrations, along with a plethora of storyboards, costumes and various other items related to films like "The Wizard of Oz," ''Casablanca" and of course "Star Wars."

Though the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is going to be a center of attraction not only for Los Angeles but for the whole world, it will not be fair to deprive the city of its greenery and open spaces in an already environmentally decaying world.
