"Narcos" has been gaining popularity since its release on Netflix in September last year. Even after the death of the drug kingpin Pablo Escobar, the series will still continue to its season 3 and 4 but with a different character.

According to Independent, the official Twitter account of "Narcos" announced that the filming of the season 3 has officially begun. In the tweet a photo showing Pedro Pascal's DEA Agent Javier Pena making an address, probably about the death of Pablo Escobar.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for season three but it's likely to arrive in August or September. Season 1 and 2 have been mostly about Pablo Escobar, a drug kingpin, but in season two's finale, Escobar has been killed in a rooftop shootout.

However, season three will have a to take a different route on how the series will proceed and with the King of Cocaine dead, the story will focus on the Cali Cartel according to Express. The Cali Cartel controlled over 90 percent of the world's cocaine market and was called the most powerful crime syndicate in history by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Eric Newman, the series showrunner, explained that they wanted to tell the story of the drug war and have a deeper look on the systemic effects of cocaine and corruption in Colombia. Cali is part of that system so he was protected by a political and economic system that they had rather ingeniously built, unlike Escobar.

Newman also said that there will be new cast members, Francisco Denis as the brother of the Cali kingpin, Miguel, and Alberto Ammann as Pacho Herrera. There is a new actor playing the fourth godfather Chepe, with Arturo Castro as Miguel's oldest son William Rodriguez.

Pedro Pascal will also return as DEA agent Javier Pena but it is not clear whether Boyd Holbrook will return as his partner Steve Murphy. Micheal Stahl-David will play Chris Feisti, a young American DEA agent and Matt Whelan as his partner Daniel Van Ness.
