Mary Richards Played By Mary Tyler Moore Challenged TV News Industry Dominated By Males

Mary Tyler Moore was one of the most inspiring television personalities, especially the women looked up to her for breaking the stereotype of male-dominated television back then. Her death at the age of 80 came as a to her fans, who made her a part of their lives.

According to the Daily News, Mary Tyler Moore shot to stardom with the character of a news producer named Mary Richards on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". Her portrayal of a career oriented, ambitious woman in her 30's was a motivation for many women. Because of Moore, many women took up the career in Journalism. The show also spoke of the women rights and it was novelty back in the year 1970 when it started.

At the inception of the sitcom, Mary's character arrived just before the time when women's liberation in the television industry was about to start with full force, before that it was purely a Man's arena. Like many others, "Inside Edition" anchor Deborah Norville was all praises for Mary. She showed gratitude to the deceased actor by tweeting, "You inspired me and so many. Your grit, stamina, kindness, and yes, your smile will be with us always."

According to The Star, eminent personalities including Oprah Winfrey are among the many who looked up to Mary as an inspiration. "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" ran till 1977 and was an attempt to make people laugh out of their daily woes on a Saturday night. Oprah Winfrey recounts the moment when in 1997 during the taping of one of the episodes of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Mary came into the set to surprise her and made her very emotional. "Thank you, Mary," Winfrey said, "for being such an inspiration to us all."

Mary Tyler Moore was awarded a prestigious service award in 2009 by the United States National Association of Broadcasters. David Rehr, the association president was all praise for her and said that she was not only a great entertainer but also a role model for a lot of women looking to pursue a career in "broadcasting, journalism and related fields". CBS has also broadcasted "Mary Tyler Moore: Love Is All Around", a tribute in memory of the deceased actor this Thursday at 9 pm.

A role model to look up to, Mary Tyler Moore continues to inspire people. Despite Moore's death, her legacy will continue through her immortal work.
